2021 NMCA #2
The second NMCA event of the year showed just how competitive this group of cars & trucks has gotten. In a tight battle in every class the winners didn’t have much of a comfort zone. Sean Kelly in his #TCIequipped ’67 stepside C10 won the Truck class by just .058 of a second. Just edging out Wes Drelleshak driving his old ’58 Apache (now owned by Pat Sheely). It was a battle to the final laps and Sean could do nothing but sit back and watch Wes make his final laps. Hoping that his time would be enough to hold Wes off.
Efrain piloting our ’67 Mustang started out the morning session strong and found himself in first place with a time of 51.952. Just .126 ahead of Jason Wilcox in the TCI equipped ’66 Nova owned by Andy Mule. Jason would raise the bar to a 51.746 in his 2nd session. While Efrain did improve to a 51.818 in his 2nd session it was only enough to keep him in 2nd place. In the final session of the day Jason was not able to improve on the 51.746. Efrain would be one of the final Classic Muscle cars to run. He did not disappoint, laying down 3 very fast laps when it counted most. His quickest of which was a 51.591 jumping him into top spot by .155 of a second.
What can we say about our buddy Andy ‘The Nova Guy’ Mule? He is just an incredible individual. He is selfless. He would give up his own seat in the car to allow someone else to capitalize. So when he does good we all swell up with pride. When he beats the boss for the first time, well then it’s time to celebrate. Watch as he literally chases down a bottom 53 second lap putting him into the 4th position, his best finish ever. In doing so, he jumps ahead of Sal by just .009 of a second. It was quite a scene once Andy emerged from the Nova. We all just did the full on dog pile on him.
