2024 Corner Exit Autocross event #1 @ Storm Stadium
We had 3 #TeamTCI members show up for the first Corner Exit event of the year. TCI is the title sponsor of the CAM (Classic American Muscle) class within the Autocross Challenge Series. Newcomer Brian Beireis brought out his ’72 C10 featuring one of our Pro-Touring chassis. This was his first autocross experience and despite some DNF’s he was able to lay down some very solid laps. In his defense he has never done a course walk either and there was one element that he kept missing. Once he figured it out his laps time continued to plummet eventually getting down to a 42.423. We’re looking forward to seeing Brian progress his skillset.
George Reiss of Reiss Racing & Restoration brought out the always fast #SabotageC10. Coming off a very competitive year in 2023 George was looking to do well and start the season off right by gaining valuable championship points. There is a very strict sound ordinance at this facility so George made some exhaust provisions. Essentially adding an extra muffler and a 180 degree turndown. The truck was flying on new Yokohama tires during practice and most of the way thru competition when fate had other ideas. As you’ll see in the video George was on a flyer of a lap when disaster struck. The previous lap, a 34.4 was just a glimpse into what lap times were capable as on lap 3 he coasted to a 35.1. George has changed the gearing and swapped transmissions in this truck a few times in an effort to keep the engine off the rev-limiter, without giving up corner exit performance. The more the truck sees the rev-limiter the more often the MAP sensor dies.
James Crosby brought out the #Racedeuce for our Marketing Supervisor Jason Wilcox to drive. Jason was also hoping to gain valuable championship points and start the year off strong. As the defending CAM champion having driven 5 different vehicles last year it was nice to be in a familiar vehicle for event #1. The Deuce was also flying but was on very seasoned Falken 660 tires in very cool weather. Not exactly an ideal situation for grip and it made the car unpredictable. In spite of that the car was navigating the course with incredible speed. Finishing just .021 behind the always fast Tom Kamman driving his C4 Corvette and also Top 5 overall. Unfortunately, the Deuce would also suffer a mechanical gremlin. On lap one of competition fuel pressure went to zero shortly after leaving the line. Not exactly a great way to start the year as the 4 competition laps are cumulative so a 1st lap DNF absolutely killed any chance at points.
